Old dog, new trick.

It is a common belief that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I’ve been exploring the idea that if an old dog wanted to learn new tricks, she could. She could learn to code, learn the basics of electrical engineering, learn to solder, and learn to properly prepare wood. So, that’s exactly what she chose to do.

I continue to explore

light and movement

Inspired by zoetropes, Muybridges walk cycle, and Akinori Goto’s Rediscovery of Anima, I begun to visualize what I wanted to explore in my own work. I enjoy changing my work throughout my process.

The Code

A large part of this piece is about research and learning. I was able to use Arduino’s “Beginner Kit Project Book” to teach myself the basics of electrical engineering. Eventually, I wrote my own code which simulates a four-frame walk cycle. I later programmed that code into the LEDs.
